True West
by Sam Shepard
Directed by Michael Catlin
Starring Sean Byrne, Glen Piper, Kevin Fox & Antoinette MacDonald
True West is the tale of two brothers: Austin, a successful young man, and Lee, an unshaven alcoholic, desert drifter and petty thief. This American classic is a poignant inquiry into the artistic and ethical struggle of working both in the film industry and as a playwright. The central question of identity that pervades Shepard’s other works takes on a different twist. "I wanted to write a play about double nature," Shepard said, "one that wouldn't be symbolic or metaphorical or any of that stuff. I think we're split in a much more devastating way than psychology can ever reveal.”
Special Note: Tuesday, April 12 was a special benefit performance in support of the CanAssist African Relief Trust.
